Is your brand working for you? I mean really working for you. I’m talking cash flowing while you’re sleeping and strangers raving about wanting to work with you.
About 6 months into using the “Sage + Stone” brand name, I realized that it just wasn’t going to work for me. It was limiting my brand awareness and recognition. I felt like the woman behind the curtain, pulling strings, but never being seen or known by my followers and clients.
Have you ever felt the same and wondered if it was time for a SERIOUS change?
In this post, I’m sharing the three main reasons why I decided to rebrand my photography business to “Jade Boyd Photography” and why you might consider a major rebrand too.
1 – I got clear on my vision for my business.
When I was starting my business, I didn’t want to limit myself to being a solopreneur forever. I wasn’t sure how I was going to scale my business to make it work for my lifestyle, and I didn’t want to risk being limited by using my name as my brand.
However, as I gained more experience, I realized that there are many successful solopreneurs running 6 figure businesses with subcontractors and VAs. I also realized that in order to scale to where I want to be while focusing on what I’m most passionate about (helping women grow powerhouse brands) my business will focus on photography AND education.
In both of these arenas, the value that I bring to the table is me alone. “Sage + Stone Studios” was not communicating this brand promise to my audience.
2 – I learned more about my target market and realized my brand could serve them better.
When I decided to niche into brand photography for female entrepreneurs, I thought I knew the target market I was serving. However, the more clients I worked with, I realized that I could provide the MOST value to creative entrepreneurs.
These are the types of business owners that are faced with highly saturated markets (increasing the need to stand out), and are fully ready to try something different and maybe even a little crazy for the camera.
They are also typically the entrepreneurs who are very disinterested about the “business part” of their business, which is the stuff I LIVE to help with!
In order to help these creative entrepreneurs stand out in their industry by building serious personal brands, I knew I needed to walk the walk and show that I could do it for myself first.
This was never going to happen if I was hiding behind the “Sage + Stone” brand name. When I showed up on my Instagram lives or shared things about my personal life, I felt anonymous and confusing. “Who’s that girl posting for Sage + Stone Studios”? It was awkward.
3 – I got over myself and decided to prioritize others.
I’m gonna be honest with you. I chose the name, “Sage + Stone Studios” simply because it was different, and I liked it. It was a prideful decision that made me feel grandiose and important.
The reality is that I’m a natural light photographer who shoots on-site, NOT IN A STUDIO. Again, confusing!!
By rebranding to Jade Boyd Photography, I’m prioritizing my clients’ experience and full understanding of who I am and what I do. I’m making it easier for them to tell if I’m the right photographer to meet their needs or not.
