Tips for pursuing big goals and getting the right things done.

There are so many details that go into planning a personal branding session, and that can sometimes feel confusing and overwhelming. But minding the details can make a huge difference in the quality of your brand photos! One of my favorite ways to style on-brand photoshoots is to incorporate props that just scream “you”. Props that you look at and think, “Did someone custom make this for me?!” Those are the props that will make your photos stand out.

Whether it’s a small, on brand book under the plant on your desk, or a yoga mat that’s your perfect brand color, the details matter. But how do you find the perfect props?

In this post, I’m going to share the 10 best places to look for on-brand props for your next personal branding session so you can feel empowered to style the photoshoot of your dreams!

01 Your House

The first place you should look is around your house. Look for home decor, furniture, books, magazines, plants, stationary, writing utensils, office essentials, food items, kitchenware, or accessories that match your brand. You might be surprised by what you can find after giving each room of your house a good sweep!

02 Thrift Store

You never know what you could find – and at an amazing price! Thrift stores are a great place to look for books that are in your brand color (even if the topic is off), planters, throw pillows, office essentials, and even furniture that will take your brand photos to the next level. Another bonus is that these props will be so unique compared to what you’ll find in a department store.

03 Dollar Store

Another super affordable option for sourcing on-brand props, dollar stores are especially great for finding snacks and kitchenware that are affordable and on-brand. This is the best place to buy on-brand candy or snacks, and white coffee cups, or kitchenware.

04 Target

Like many people, I have an obsession with Target. This is hands down, my favorite place to find trendy, modern props for brands. They also have a great return policy, so although the prices are definitely higher, you have the option of returning some of the props you won’t use after your branding session. But let’s be honest – you’ll probably want to keep them anyway. 😉

05 Amazon

What CAN’T you find on Amazon? I like searching by categories on Amazon to see what’s trending. For example, if I know that I’ll be shooting in a kitchen, I’ll navigate to the “Kitchen” category on Amazon to get ideas for different props I could include.

06 Etsy

Etsy is my favorite place to shop for on-brand T-shirts or crewnecks for branding sessions, and I also love supporting other small business owners! I also look for on-brand digital print outs here because they can really make your brand colors and aesthetic pop even if they’re placed in the background. And last but not least, this is a great place to buy on-brand throw pillow covers.

07 World Market

World Market has so many unique props from furniture and plants to coffee cups and staplers, they have it all. This is hands down, my favorite place to source unique props for my styled stock photos (which I repurpose for client branding sessions a lot)!

08 Hobby Lobby

When I prop shop at Hobby Lobby, I’m mostly looking for home decor and office supplies, but I also love browsing through the fabric section for more artistic branding sessions or unique flat lay textures.

09 Google

Google shopping is a great one-stop shop when I’m looking for something very specific, like modern dumbbells (so gorgeous, so expensive) or mid-century modern notebooks. Go to the shopping tab and you’ll find shop links from a variety of online sellers.

10 Grocery Store

Last but not least, don’t forget the food! Produce can be a great on-brand prop for fitness brand, but also a great way to introduce your brand colors even if you’re not in a fitness profession. Not to mention, a great energy boost an hour into your session. 😉

Next Steps

Happy shopping! Take these tips and go find the props that meet your #brandinggoals! And with all those props on hand, you’ll be ready to batch your brand photos and market your business like a pro.
