Did you know that the average American spends 608 hours on social media and 1642 hours on TV each year? And in that amount of time, a good reader could finish over 1,000 books. When I first learned this, my mind was BLOWN. My media consumption is well below average, but I also know that I have more than enough time to read 100 books if I want to.. and I do! We have time do do more than we think. Especially when we’re aware of how our time is being spent.
Reading 100 books is kind of an ambitious goal for me. It’s going to require that I BECOME a reader, which I’m really excited about! Last year I read 32 books, so it’s not like I’m building a brand new habit, but it’s still a significant stretch goal for me.
My Favorite Book Genres
Generally, I stick to books with wide popularity – the ones that are virtually guaranteed to be good. My favorite non-fiction genres are business, productivity/personal development (obviously), and Christian living. And my favorite fiction genres are romance and fantasy. I’m sure you’ll also see some home design and plant books sprinkled in there throughout the year!
